ROBERT "Bob" AMMONS

I joined the United States Air Force in Nov 1974. I retired Jul 1998. I was in the Air Freight career field for my first 8.5 years, then I cross trained into the Munitions career field (Missiles/explosives/nuclear weapons) I served and saw the world. 4 Meritorious Service Medals, 4 Commendation Medals, assorted decorations and accomplishments to include Weapons Safety Manager of the Year for US Air Forces Europe 1991 (Desert Storm) and again Weapons Safety Manager of the Year US Air Forces Pacific 1994. Traveled to over 20 countries. Had solid tours in England, Turkey, Holland, So. Korea, Kuwait, Iceland, Italy and Greece just to name a few. When I retired I moved to AL. became a school teacher for a few years. volunteer coached girls softball/basketball/volleyball. My freshmen Volleyball team were the first to win their county tournament. The I worked for Jefferson County Emergency Management as an Emergency Manager with Logistics, I was the coordinator. worked there for 12 years, was had to do with emergency response to weather events, accidents involving hazardous materials exposures and aircraft crashes.... Now retired almost finished, lol.

Funniest story my senior year! When I found out I had been accepted for early graduation mid-term, no one told me.... Well the second semester, I just had to take AM Gov't so I came to school at like 730 and was gone by 820, I parked in the Ass't principal's parking spot. He didn't catch me until week before graduation, He "fined" me but let me put the money towards my sisters acct's in the bookstore. I was really a part time student..... Another funny some of us were at a party on Christmas break and someone forgot a paper/homework in their locker. Well we went to the school, climbed in to the court yard, the ground was so muddy. We got in the school and ran the hallways, muddy shoes and all, went and got her assignment and left... Nope never got caught, oh yeah we rolled the rock, who remembers the rock....
